Caring for Handloom & Hand-Block Cottons

Hand-block prints and handloom weaves are made with natural dyes and pure fibres. That's exactly what makes them breathable and beautiful — and why they like gentler care than mass-made synthetics.

The first wash matters most

Wash new pieces separately in cold water for the first two or three washes. Natural dyes can release a little excess colour early on; washing alone prevents any transfer. A spoon of salt in the first rinse helps set the dye.

Cold water, gentle hands, kind sun

Cold hand-wash or a gentle machine cycle is ideal. Skip the harsh detergents and bleach. Dry in shade rather than direct sun — strong sunlight is the fastest way to fade rich colour.

Pure cottons may shrink up to about five percent in the first wash. This is normal for natural fibre; buying true to size accounts for it.

Store it breathing

Fold and store natural fabrics somewhere airy. A light steam or a warm iron on the reverse smooths creases without flattening the print.
